What others can see about where you are

Your pin is not where you are. It is offset by a random amount within a small area, so it shows roughly where you are and never your address. The offset is fixed rather than jittering about, so your pin does not appear to wander between visits.

Distances shown to other people are rounded for the same reason. Nobody can triangulate you by watching a number change as they move.

You can also switch “visible on the map” off entirely. You keep your account and can still be found in lists and searches, but you are not pinned.

Location is only ever detected, never typed in, so nobody can plant themselves in your neighbourhood by claiming to live there.
