Getting started

Your profile and your tags

Tags decide who you match with, so they matter more than the bio does.

Your profile has two halves. The written half — photo, headline, bio — is what someone reads once they have found you. The tagged half decides whether they ever do.

  • Industry: the field you work in.
  • Role: what you are — founder, engineer, investor, designer.
  • Skills and offers: what you can do for someone else.
  • Looking for: what you want out of this network. This one does the most work.

Matching pairs your “looking for” against other people's roles, skills and offers, and pairs theirs against yours. A two-sided fit ranks far above a one-sided one, because that is the kind that turns into a conversation. It is synonym-aware, so “Talent” finds engineers and “Investors” finds capital without you having to write both.

Free text counts too. Your headline and bio are read for overlapping vocabulary, which means a specific bio beats an impressive one.

Thin tags are the most common reason someone says the map is showing them irrelevant people. Five minutes on this page changes what you see everywhere else.
